DHAKA, Oct 18, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan today said that the educated population of the country must be made productive.

He said, "No plan will succeed if the people are not involved in the country's development process. A practical plan for productive employment must be adopted for the educated population. BNP is moving forward with an action plan to employ one crore (ten million) youth after providing them technical and vocational education."

Dr. Moyeen made the remarks at a seminar titled "Socio-Economic Development in Bangladesh Through TVET: Problems and Prospects" held at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) auditorium.

The Education Reform Initiative (ERI) organized the event.

President of ERI and former State Minister of Education Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milan presented the keynote paper.

Dr. Moyeen said, "Bangladesh is in the most advantageous position globally with 52 percent of its population belonging to the youth category. BNP will take all necessary steps to transform this youth class into a human resource. This initiative has been taken as part of the process to transform the 'youth's hand into a worker's hand' as declared by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman."

The keynote paper highlighted that 20 percent of the youth in Bangladesh are university graduates, but only 16.8 percent have secured employment. This is disappointing. According to the UGC (University Grants Commission) survey of 2024, although one million youth enter the job market every year, less than half of them find employment. Furthermore, BMET (Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training) statistics from 2024 indicate that while one million youth go abroad for jobs every year, most of them are unskilled. Consequently, they receive lower wages and are engaged in low-quality work. Therefore, the overall development of the country is not possible without a trained populace.

Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Textile University (BUTEX) Dr. Julhas Uddin, Adviser to the BNP Chairperson Dr. S M Ziauddin Haider, Chairman of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board Engineer Md. Ruhul Amin, Organizing Secretary of the BNP’s Cumilla region and Chairman of the Teachers-Employees Unity Alliance Principal Md. Selim Bhuiyan, and  Director General of the Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought Dr. Muhammad Abdul Aziz were present as  special guest in the event.
