Jamaat Chief stresses women's role in nation building

DHAKA, Oct 16, 2025 (BSS) -Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today said the party wants to elevate the status of women by recognizing them as equal contributors to the nation alongside men, granting them a position of honour and dignity.

He made the remarks while addressing a women's gathering as the chief guest at the Police Convention Hall in Mirpur here, organized by the Mirpur-Kafrul region under Dhaka North City (Dhaka-15 constituency) unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Dr Fakhruddin Manik, central Majlis-e-Shura member and Assistant Secretary of Dhaka North City unit, presided over the event, while Shah Alam Tuhin, Dhaka-15 constituency secretary and member of the Dhaka North City working committee, conducted it. 

Abdur Rahman Musa, Central Working Committee member and Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat Dhaka North City and Laskar Mohammad Taslim, Central Vice-President of Bangladesh Labour Welfare Federation, were present on the occasion.

Working committee members Md Shahidullah, Engineer Kazi Abid Hasan and several women leaders and representatives also took part in it.

In his speech, Dr Shafiqur Rahman highlighted the historical contributions of women in Islam. 

He mentioned that among the first 500 converts to Islam, one was Hazrat Sumayyah (RA), the first martyr of Islam. 

He also referred to Hazrat Subaita (RA), who protected the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during the Battle of Uhud by shielding him with her body. 

Noting that Islam grants women a special status, he called upon women to play a significant role once again in establishing the deen (Islamic way of life) of Allah on the earth.
