DHAKA, Oct 16, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) have arrested nine leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations, including Shahadat, the younger brother of former minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

Deputy Commissioner of DB (media and public relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said they were arrested from different parts of the capital in the past 24 hours for their suspected involvement in anti-state activities such as bringing out and financing sudden processions.

He said that the arrested are: AL general secretary and former road transport and bridge minister Obaidul Quader's younger brother Md Shahadat Hossain (61), former president of Khilkhet Thana Sramik League Md Abdul Khalek (46), vice president of Ward No-29 AL Haji Sirajul Islam Mona (59), former vice-president of Harirampur Union Jubo League Ataur Rahman Ata (60), president of Baraigram Upazila Krishak League in Natore Rubel Bali (45), science and technology affairs secretary of Kaukhali in Pirojpur Bipul Baran Ghosh (46), president of Amirganj Union Chhatra League in Narsingdi Naimul Bhuiyan Bashar (32), assistant organizing secretary of Dakshinkhan Sramik League Md Alamgir Hossain Saiful (42) and senior vice-president of Ward No-63 Chhatra League Md Abdul Awal (45).

The DMP’s release said that a team of DB Gulshan Division conducted a raid at Bashundhara residential area under Bhatara police station at approximately 10:00 am today and arrested Shahadat Hossain.

Another team arrested Abdul Khalek from Madhyapara under Khilkhet police station at 8:10 am, while a team of DB Motijheel Division arrested Sirajul Islam Mona from Chawkbazar police station area at 8:45 am early today, it said.

On October 15, DB Mirpur Division arrested Ataur Rahman Ata from Turag police station area at 10:50 pm while a team of DB Tejgaon Division arrested Rubel Bali from Motijheel area at 3:00 pm. 

Another team of DB Wari Division conducted a raid at Tejgaon area and arrested Bipul Baran Ghosh at around 10:00 pm, while a team of DB Uttara Division arrested Naimul Bhuiyan Bashar from Palwell market area at about 2:30pm yesterday. 

Another team of DB Uttara Division arrested Md Alamgir Hossain Saiful from Uttara area at around 11:45 pm, while a team of DB Cyber Division arrested Md Abdul Awiyal from Hatirpool area at 11:50 pm.

Legal procedure is underway against them.
