DHAKA, Oct 15, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu today said that only an elected government can lead the establishment of democracy. 

"Not an unelected government, only an elected government can lead the establishment of democracy. If democracy is not established, people’s expectation that was created through the fall of autocracy will be obstructed and thus they will also become frustrated,” he said. 

Dudu made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a protest rally in front of the National Press Club.  

Desh Bachao Manush Bachao Andolon (Save the Country, Save the People Movement) organized the event to protest the domestic and international conspiracies surrounding the national elections.

The senior BNP leader said, “Those who are currently in government must stand by the people and take the necessary steps to establish an elected government. The election process, including the appointment of the Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Superintendents of Police (SPs) or other election-related officials, must not be influenced by any particular party. If such influence happens, democracy will face a difficult situation and the people will become hopeless."

Criticizing some political parties, he said, “The act of hiring agents or people inside the government or engaging in blackmail is not the work of a political party. In the context of democracy and the rule of law, it is punishable and illegal. Therefore, I will say that the government should be cautious about those who are thinking of taking advantage by blackmailing it."

About Awami League’s politics, Dudu criticized, “In this country, Sheikh Mujib was the one who murdered democracy. If you recall the events of '73-'75, you'll see that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman formed BAKSAL within three years and created the Rakkhi Bahini, which killed nearly 40,000 opposition leaders and activists.”

“Over the last 15-16 years, Sheikh Hasina killed thousands of people in Bangladesh merely to stay in power. This family, from top to bottom is one of killers, mass murderers and looters. Their trial must be visible. These murderers cannot be rehabilitated in any way,” he added. 

Desh Bachao Manush Bachao Andolon president K M Rakibul Islam Ripon presided over the event. Chairman of the National Labor Party Lion Faruk Rahman and former convener of Pirojpur District BNP Principal Alamgir Hossain, among others, spoke in the event.
