DHAKA, Oct 14, 2025 (BSS) - The National Citizen Party (NCP) today urged the government to address the long-standing demand of MPO-listed teachers for increased house rent and medical allowances, expressing concern over recent clashes during their protests.
In a statement this evening, the party said that in a democratic and independent country, all citizens have the right to raise their demands through lawful means, and the government should seriously consider the teachers' demands and reach fair solutions.
The NCP reaffirmed its support for the teachers' movement, noting that on October 12, a delegation led by NCP Chief Organizer (South) Hasnat Abdullah, Senior Joint Convener Samanta Sharmin, and Education and Research Secretary Faisal Mahmud Shanto expressed solidarity with MPO teachers at the Jatiya Shaheed Minar.
"Until the teachers' demands are met, we will continue to stand with them in this struggle," the statement said.
The NCP also highlighted the need to reform the education system. "Since independence, a state-led system has been in place that has systematically undermined education and humiliated teachers. This outdated and ineffective system must be dismantled to establish a new and functional education framework," it said.
Reiterating its commitment, the NCP said, "We are dedicated to improving the education system and safeguarding teachers' rights.
Convener Nahid Islam has promised in the manifesto of New Bangladesh to restructure education through 24 key initiatives and establish a separate, dignified salary structure for teachers.
The NCP will continue working with all teachers to ensure their rights, fair pay and overall development of the education system in the Bangladesh of tomorrow, it added.
