DHAKA, Oct 14, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said that if the referendum for the constitutional implementation of the July Charter and the upcoming national parliamentary election are not held simultaneously, it will lead to chaos.

He said, “The majority of political parties have agreed that the referendum on the July Charter should be held on the same day as the parliamentary election. This will save both time and cost.”

“If the referendum is held in November, the preparations for it and then separate preparations for the national parliamentary election will create a kind of disorder,” he added.

Rizvi made the remarks as the chief guest at a protest discussion organized by the Jatiyatabadi Olama Dal at the National Press Club.

Speaking on the Proportional Representation (PR) system, the veteran BNP leader said, “More than 50 percent of the common people know nothing about the PR system.”

He said that attempting to forcibly impose something about which people have no knowledge or experience cannot be called democracy.

Convener of the Olama Dal Maulana Kazi Md Salim Reza presided over the event, while Member Secretary Advocate Maulana Kazi Mohammad Abul Hossain moderated it.

BNP Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon and Religious Affairs Secretary Rafiqul Islam Jamal, among others, also spoke on the occasion.

Leaders and activists from various units of the Olama Dal participated in the event.
