GAZIPUR, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said some people claim BNP does not believe in reform, but in reality, the BNP itself is the founder of reform in national politics.

“After the fall of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman restored democracy and set the nation on a new path. The 31-point programme announced by Tarique Rahman contains the complete framework of reform envisioned by him,” he said.

Mirza Fakhrul was addressing a memorial meeting marking the ninth death anniversary of Brigadier General (retd) ASM Hannan Shah, organized by the Hannan Shah Smriti Sangsad at Kapasia Government Pilot High School field in Gazipur this afternoon. 

Mirza Fakhrul said, “Dr. Yunus is a Nobel Laureate and a person respected by all. He is rebuilding the country’s broken economy and administration through the formation of a neutral Advisory Council. Six reform commissions have been working for the last seven months, which is a positive development. However, the government must remain completely neutral.”

He added, “The evil force of Hasina has fled in the face of people’s resistance. Now we feel truly free. The election train is already on track- there is no more waiting. BNP leaders and activists must go door to door to campaign for the ‘sheaf of paddy’ symbol.”

Highlighting BNP’s legacy in empowering women, Mirza Fakhrul said Shaheed Zia gave women their freedom by establishing the Ministry of Women and the Jatiyo Mohila Sangstha, while Begum Khaleda Zia made education free for girls up to class twelve, leading to visible progress in women’s development. 

Commenting on India-Bangladesh relationship, BNP Secretary General said, “India is not behaving like a friend- they are killing our people on the border and depriving us of our fair share of water. They are even trying to interfere in our elections. Friendship must be based on equality.”

Referring to Tarique Rahman’s 31-point reform plan, he said the outline includes a blueprint to create one crore employment, with rehabilitation and job creation initiatives across agriculture, industry, and other sectors.

Paying tribute to the late Brigadier Hannan Shah, Mirza Fakhrul said, “He was a true patriot and a symbol of trust within the party. He carried forward the ideals of Shaheed Zia, Begum Khaleda Zia, and Tarique Rahman. During the party’s difficult times, he held the BNP together with courage and integrity, enduring persecution, but never compromised.”

Chaired by Gazipur district BNP President Fazlul Haque Milon and conducted by Kapasia BNP Member Secretary Khandaker Azizur Rahman Pera, it was also addressed by Hannan Shah’s son and Joint Convener of the Gazipur district BNP convening committee Shah Riazul Hannan, BNP’s Dhaka Divisional Organizing Secretary Kazi Sayeedul Alam Babul, central leaders Dr. M A Kaiyum and Humayun Kabir Khan.
