DHAKA, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed has expressed concern over the detention of photographer and writer Shahidul Alam by Israel forces in sea.
“Shahidul Alam was taking relief goods to Gaza for helpless Palestinians risking his own life. Even at the moment of detention, he demanded the independence of Palestine. Bangladeshis are heroes. Shahidul Alam is a brave hero,” he said.
Rizvi said made the comments at a views-exchange meeting with the leaders of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) at the BNP's Nayapaltan central office here.
Regarding Tarique Rahman’s recent interview with BBC, Rizvi said, they learnt a lot from his elegant statement in the interview.
“He did not make any indecent comments against the leader of any political party. However, it is beyond words to express how Sheikh Hasina had lowered the political culture,” he said.
Rizvi said that during the rule of the fallen Awami dictator, no leader or activist of DAB was at peace.
Those who had joined Chhatra Dal in their youth or were associated with BNP politics did not get promotions, he said, adding that they were deprived of travelling abroad.
Doctors who participated in the nationalist ideology were dismissed, he said.
Rizvi Ahmed said that a private statistic showed that about 40 lakh patients are receiving treatment on the floors of various hospitals every year while 70 percent of the common people are not getting oxygen service.
He said if BNP is voted to power, the health sector would be taken forward by taking the advice of DAB and medical services would be taken to the doorstep of the people.
Newly elected President of Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) Harun-ur-Rashid chaired the meeting which was moderated by Secretary General Zahirul Islam Shakil.
