DHAKA, Sept 25, 2025 (BSS) - Waste contractors will not be able to collect charges or bills of more than Tk 100 from each house, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia.
“Strict action will be taken if this is violated,” he said in an exclusive interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) at his office at LGRD and Cooperatives Ministry at the Secretariat today.
The DSCC administrator said the city corporation is always engaged in providing services to the citizens. If any citizen faces any unfair treatment in getting any service from DSCC, action will be taken against officials concerned under the city corporation's own law, he said.
He said that new applications have been invited from the organizations providing primary waste collection services in 75 wards under the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). After the verification and selection, new contractors will be appointed soon, he added.
Shahjahan said that the term of the currently employed organizations will end in the next two months. A new registration process has been launched to ensure the speed and quality of waste management, he said.
The administrator said that for very humane reasons, the previous contractor can continue working until a new contractor is appointed.
He said that the waste management charge will be collected in the same manner in the 75 wards of the DSCC. There is no scope for charging more in this regard, he said.
The administrator said that during the last Eid-ul-Azha, 133,317 animals were sacrificed in the 75 wards of the Dhaka South City Corporation.
After the sacrifice, the waste of the sacrificial animals was removed from the citizen level and transferred to the secondary transfer station of each ward.
Later, it was finally dumped at the Matuail sanitary landfill through a dump truck, he said, adding this has been possible due to the strong morale and sincerity of the city corporation employees and this success will be maintained.
In the meantime, everyone should be careful that the image of the city corporation is not tarnished due to any waste contractor, he said.
The administrator said that the process of spraying medicine to kill mosquitoes is ongoing in each ward of the city corporation.
He urged the citizens to inform the concerned wing of the corporation if the medicine is not sprayed regularly anywhere.
The administrator said that it is not possible for the DSCC to inquire about the houses of each ward while sitting in the city corporation. However, if anyone complains, immediate action will be taken, he added.
