CHATTOGRAM, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS)- "Sompritir Shikkharthi Jote," a panel backed by Jamaat-e-Islami's student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, has announced their candidates for the upcoming Chattogram University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) and hall unions elections.
Saidul Islam, human welfare affairs secretary of Chhatra Shibir central committee and former president of CU Chhatra Shibir, revealed the panel at a press conference on the campus today.
Ibrahim Hossain Rony, an executive member of the Central Chhatra Shibir and a history department student, has been selected as the VP candidate.
Sayeed Bin Habib, a graduate student of the history department and Sajjad Hossain Munna, a graduate student of the finance department were named respectively as the General Secretary (GS) and Assistant General Secretary (AGS) candidates.
The panel includes Mohammad Shaon (Sports and Athletics Secretary), Shahparan Maruf (Deputy Sports and Athletics Secretary), Haresul Islam (Literature, Culture, and Publication Secretary), Jihad Hossain (Deputy Literature, Culture, and Publication Secretary), Abdullah Al Noman (Office Secretary), Jannatul Adan Nusrat (Deputy Office Secretary), Tahsina Rahman (Social Service and Environment Secretary), Tanvir Anjum Shovon (Research and Innovation Affairs Secretary), Mahbubur Rahman (Science and Information Technology Affairs Secretary).
The candidates contesting in other posts are- Nahima Akhter Deepa (Secretary for Student Welfare), Jannatul Ferdaus Rita (Assistant Secretary for Student Welfare), Afnan Hasan Imran (Secretary for Health), Monayem Sharif (Secretary for Liberation War and Democratic Movement), Mehdi Hasan Sohan (Secretary for Career Development and International Affairs), Ishaq Bhuiyan (Secretary for Communication and Housing), Obaidul Salman (Assistant Secretary for Communication and Housing), Towhid Rabbi (Secretary for Law and Human Rights), and Masum Billah (Secretary for Library and Cafeteria) are also part of the team.
Jannatul Ferdaus Sanjida, Salman Farsi, Akash Das, Sohanur Rahman and Adnan Sharif will contest for the posts of five executive members of CUCSU.
While announcing the panel Saidul Islam hoped that CUCSU would serve as an effective platform for advocating students' rights.
He also believed that CUCSU could address longstanding student demands in consultation with the university authorities- such as accommodation issues, inadequate shuttle train services, low-quality food in dormitories and cafeterias, and security concerns.
He said, Islami Chattra Shibir believes in religious freedom, inter-communal harmony, and always stands by freedom of female students. They are against moral policing and aim to establish a campus with the values of freedom, liberalism, and democracy, he added.
