KURIGRAM, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS) - The younger brother of Felani Khatun, a teenager who was killed in a firing of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on the Cooch Behar border in India on January 7, 2011, has now got a job in Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

After passing the recruitment test held by BGB’s Lalmonirhat Battalion (15 BGB) on February 23 this year, Felani’s brother was officially handed over his appointment letter by the battalion commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Imam on Wednesday.

The killing of 15-year old Felani sparked a widespread criticism across the country and abroad. Since then, Felani's family has been fighting for justice.

Felani's brother Arfan Hossain said in an emotional voice, "My parents' dream was to work for the country. Ever if people protested after Felani's murder, we wanted to join the BGB. Today that dream has come true. I thank the BGB for giving me the opportunity to serve the country’s people."

Felani's father Nur Islam said on the way back from India, the BSF shot his minor daughter dead like a bird and hung her on a barbed wire fence.

“I still can't forget that scene. But the country’s people and the BGB were always beside us. They helped us by opening shops. Today, my son got an opportunity in the BGB with his talent and qualifications. This is a big attainment in my life."

Lalmonirhat Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Imam said, "BGB always remains beside Felani's family. Felani's younger brother will join the training centre on September 19. We believe that after the training, he will serve the country as a skilled BGB member."

He also said the BGB is always vigilant at the border to ensure that brutal incidents like the Felani killing do not happen again.
