DHAKA, Sept 10, 2025 (BSS) – The Department of Environment (DoE) today conducted coordinated mobile court drives in several districts and parts of the capital to enforce environmental laws and regulations for curbing polythene use, air pollution and noise pollution.
The operations were carried out in Rajbari, Munshiganj, Pirojpur, Khulna, Nilphamari, Chapainawabganj, Panchagarh and various areas under Dhaka South and North City Corporations.
In Rajbari, Munshiganj, Pirojpur and Dhaka’s Chawk Bazar area, four mobile courts filed three cases and realized Tk. 4,500 in fines for the illegal production, sale and distribution of banned polythene bags.
A total of 126 kilograms of banned polythene were seized during the drives.
Awareness campaigns were also conducted by distributing leaflets.
Besides, public were encouraged to use eco-friendly alternatives such as jute bags.
In the capital's Shyamoli area, a mobile court fined Tk. 16,000 in five cases for vehicles emitting excessive black smoke. Several vehicle owners and drivers were cautioned during the drive.
Under the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2006, mobile courts operating in Chapainawabganj, Nilphamari and Panchagarh collected Tk. 3,300 in fines through seven cases and seized 12 hydraulic horns. Warning notices were issued to several drivers.
In Khulna and Panchagarh, two cases were filed under the Air Pollution (Control) Rules, 2022, with fines totaling Tk. 2,000 for environmental pollution caused by improper handling of construction materials. Business owners involved were cautioned.
