Good governance enhances citizens’ engagement in state affairs: Dr. Iftekharuzzaman

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 10, 2025 (BSS) – Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), today stressed the importance of establishing democratic practices in all government institutions to ensure good governance.

He said good governance encourages citizens to actively participate in state affairs and government functions. Lack of good governance can lead to the marginalization of disadvantaged groups and an increase in corruption, he added.
 
Dr. Iftekharuzzaman made these observations as the chief discussant at a workshop titled “TEXE Development Goals and Institutional Good Governance”, organized by the Sachaton Nagorik Committee (SANAC)-TIB in association with the Divisional Administration, Chattogram.

The workshop was attended by heads of 45 government departments at the divisional level along with officials from 10 private institutions.

He emphasized that institutional good governance is essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) underscoring the need for corruption-free services in both government and private offices.

Acting Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Nurullah-Nuri highlighted the role of patriotism in discharging responsibilities and urged participants to work sincerely on action plans to implement the National Integrity Strategy.

The event was moderated by SANAC-TIB Chattogram President Engineer Md. Delwar Hossain Majumder, while former SANAC President Advocate Akhtar Kabir Chowdhury delivered the welcome speech.

Deputy Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Dr. Md. Saifur Rahman, ACC Divisional Director Md. Abul Hossain, Director of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Md. Fazlul Quader Chowdhury, among others, were present at the event.
