DHAKA, Sept 2, 2025 (BSS) - Police, in separate raids carried out in different parts of the capital over the last two days, arrested nine leaders and activists of the Awami League on suspicion of attempting to destabilize the country.
The arrested were identified as former vice-president of Shyampur Thana AL Shahidul Islam (52), former organizing secretary of Dhaka North City Chhatra League Rahat Al Imtiaz (28), general secretary of Thana Women AL Fatema Alam (45), president of Jubo League of Nilokhi Union of Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur district Md. Anwar Hossain (54), general secretary of Khuniapalong Union Awami League of Ramu Upazila of Cox's Bazar district Abdullah Sikder (45), Dhaka district South Chhatra League deputy religious affairs secretary Md. Abdullah (31), activists Isa Ahmed (23), Ward No. 32 Unit AL general secretary Abdur Razzak (43) and AL Central Sub-Committee member Md. Ershadul Kabir Abid (42).
Police arrested them in separate raids at Fakirapul, Dhanmondi, Ramna, Taltola Shantinagar, Jatrabari, Jhigatola, Purba Rayerbazar and Malibag areas on Monday and Tuesday, said a police press release.
