DHAKA, July 27, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed four people on a seven-day remand each in a case lodged for extorting money from a house in the city's Gulshan area.
The accused - Abdur Razzak Riad, 23, Sakadaun Sadab, 22, Sadman Sadab, 21, and Ibrahim Hossain, 24 - were arrested last night (Saturday).
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zihadur Rahman passed the order as police produced the four before the court and pleaded to place them on a 10-day remand each in the case, court staff Sharif Mehedi Hasan told BSS.
According to the case documents, the accused, led by Abdur Razzak Riad and Qazi Gourab Apu, went to the house of plaintiff Abu Jafar on July 17, 2025, and demanded Taka 50 lakh and gold ornaments and threatened to create a mob situation and handed them over to police, labelling them as cohorts of former Awami League regime.
"At one point, I gave them Taka 10 lakh and they went away. They again came to my house on July 19 and as I called police, they went away. On July 26, they again came to my house and created ruckus for Taka 40 lakh. They again threatened to hand me over to police. As I was away at the time, the guard of my house called me and informed about the matter," plaintiff Abu Jafar said.
Abu Jafar filed the case against six people with the Gulshan Police Station. The other two accused are Qazi Gourab Apu and Aminul Islam.
