Mohin gives confessional statement in Sohag murder case

DHAKA, July 20, 2025 (BSS) - Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, arrested in the case filed over killing of scrap trader Lal Chand alias Md. Sohag, 43, in the capital's Mitford Hospital premises, has confessed responsibility and given a confessional statement. 

With this, five accused have given confessional statements in the case.

Police today produced Mohin before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court after the second phase of five-day remand. 

The investigating officer (IO) of the case and the officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Md. Moniruzzaman requested to record his statement as he willingly agreed to give a confessional statement. 

In view of the application, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman recorded his statement.

On July 10, the court granted Mahmudul Hasan Mohin a five-day remand. On July 15, the court granted Mahmudul Hasan Mohin another five-day remand.

On July 9, a group of people brutally beat to death a scrap trader, Lal Chand alias Sohag, 39, on Mitford Hospital premises. The next day, his elder sister Manjuara Begum filed a murder case against 19 people at the Kotwali Police Station. Unknown 15-20 other people were made accused in the case.

The deceased, Md. Sohag, is the son of Yusuf Ali Howlader of Purba Namabari village under Keraniganj Model Police Station. He had been running  scrap business at Rajni Ghosh Lane, No. 4, in Mitford area for a long time.
