DHAKA, July 20, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Selima Rahman today said BNP is fighting for state structure reform as BNP is committed to the people for this.
She came up with the remarks while speaking at a dialogue titled “What we can do to deal with the post-2024 political crisis and pre-election violence”, at a city hotel. The dialogue was organized by School of Leadership- Sole USA, a global platform for developing leadership among immigrants and refugees.
Regarding the national election, BNP standing committee member Selima Rahman said Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus must keep the promise he made.
“We want the election to be held this February, it must happen,” she said.
The BNP leader criticized National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders for making various “indecent” comments against senior BNP leaders.
She said Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of BNP standing committee and was a member of parliament from Cox's Bazar, was tortured for 16 years and was victim of enforced disappearance.
“Indecent comments were made against him. This is very much unexpected,” she said.
She said they are happy that the young generation is establishing a political party.
Before the July mass uprising, Bangladesh saw the great War of Liberation in 1971, a mass uprising in 1990s but those who led these did not retain power.
“But what happened in 2024? I salute those who participated in 2024 mass uprising. But at the same time, I want to say that the entire nation joined the movement with you. Just as the spirit of the Liberation War was fragmented and given a commercial form, today too it seems that the movement of 2024 has been fragmented,” she said.
Selima Rahman said they would pay tribute to those who gave their lives all over the country to overthrow the dictatorship.
“This is the greatest achievement of the people of Bangladesh. But we will not do business with it,” she said.
Bangladesh Jatiya Dal Chairman and top leader of the 12-party alliance, Syed Ehsanul Huda, said a conspiracy to delay the election has begun.
“But we cannot fall into any trap. We have to win the election," he said.
BNP Chairperson's Advisor Moazzem Hossain Alal, BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Emran Saleh Prince, AB Party Joint General Secretary Barrister Zubair Ahmed Bhuiyan, Solo USA's Bangladesh Chapter President Professor Dr. MM Shariful Karim, among others, also spoke at the event.
BNP's Assistant Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Parvez Reza Kakon presented the keynote paper in the dialogue.
