Tree identification competition 2025 held at National Tree Fair

DHAKA, July 17, 2025 (BSS) - Tree identification competition 2025 was organized at the National Tree Fair premises today to create awareness among students about trees and environment on the occasion of 'National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2025.

Chief Conservator of Forests Md. Amir Hossain Chowdhury joined the event, held at the premises of Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre here as the chief guest..

About 450 students from a total of 15 educational institutions including Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Notre Dame College, Residential School and College, Dhanmondi Gov. Boys High School, Cambrian School and College in Dhaka city participated in the competition.

The participants were divided into three groups—Group A (6th-8th grade), Group B (9th-10th grade) and Group C (11th-12th grade). In each group, students had to identify 25 native forest, fruit, herb and ornamental species of trees.

In Group A, Safia Binte Zaman, a student of Class VIII of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Girls High School, became first, Md. Maria Akhter Sinha of Ganabhaban Government High School became 2nd while Israt Jahan Sinha of Tejgaon Government High School became 3rd.

In Group B, Hira Moni of Ganabhaban Government High School came in first place, Raj Saha of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Boys High School came in second place, and Hillary Tasnim Rifa of Nirjhar Cantonment School and College came in third place.

In Group C, Humaira Tasnim Purno  of Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Girls College came in first place, Md. Rabiul Islam of Government Science College, Tejgaon came in second place, and Rudranil Debnath of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School came in third place.

At the end of the competition, the Kaktaruwa Puppet Theatre presented a delightful puppet show highlighting the importance of preserving the environment, forests, wildlife and biodiversity, which received a huge response from students, teachers and visitors to the fair.

At the closing ceremony of the ‘National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2025’, the winners of each group will be awarded crests, prize bonds and certificates.
