BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 136.9 crore in June

DHAKA, July 14, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth approximately Tk 136.9 crore across the country in June 2025.

The seized contraband includes 4.338kg, 13,372 pieces of saris, 3,500 three-piece/shirt piece/chadar/blanket, 548 ready-made garments, 2,147 meters of than cloth, 2,25,096 cosmetics, 4,578 imitation jewellery, 6,64,508 fireworks, 6,345 cubic feet of wood, 4,903 kg of tea leaves, 31,974 kg of betel nut, 17,769 kg of fertilizer, 10,540 kg of coal, 19,204 kg of yarn/current net, 1,328 mobiles, 1,850 mobile covers, 37,541 mobile displays, 15,519 glasses, 2,182 kg of various fruits, 5,844 kg of edible oil, 1,000 liters of diesel, 3,182 kg of cumin, 1,336 packets of various types of seeds, 7,492 pieces of shrimp fry, 1,150 kg of coffee, 5,47,246 pieces of chocolate, 777 cows/buffaloes, 1 stone statue, 3 buses, 10 trucks/covered vans, 3 pickups/Mahendras, 7 private cars/microbuses, 138 boats, 27 CNG/easy bikes, 64 motorcycles and 39 bicycles, according to a press release issued today. 

The BGB also seized two locally-made pistols, one foreign pistol, two domestic single-barrel guns, three shotguns, three mortar shells, 19 bullets and four hand grenades, .

They also seized a large amount of narcotics in the last month. The seized drugs and narcotics include 1,268,015 pieces of Yaba tablets, 7.925kg of heroin, 1.430kg of cocaine, 8,272 bottles of Phensidyl, 10,940 bottles of foreign liquor, 393.5 liters of Bengali liquor, 1,435 bottles of canned beer, 1,698 kg 707 grams of marijuana, 1,24,587 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 2,649 kg of tobacco leaves, 53,935 narcotic tablets/injections, 4,770 bottles of Escafe syrup, 17 bottles of LSD, 12,376 Anegra/Senegra tablets and 9,61,033 various types of medicines. 

The paramilitary force also arrested 197 smugglers and 155 Bangladeshi citizens and 7 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border and for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking, added the press release. 

In addition, 335 Myanmar citizens have been returned to their country while trying to enter Bangladesh.
