DHAKA, July 12, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today called for prompt and thorough investigations into a series of recent incidents, including the horrific killing in old Dhaka, emphasizing the urgency of identifying and bringing the real perpetrators to justice.

He made this demand while speaking at an event organized by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in the capital’s Hotel Lakeshore.

The BNP Secretary General asserted, “Let me be absolutely clear that we call upon the government to swiftly investigate these incidents and uncover the real culprits to bring them under punishment.”

He added, “If these injustices persist, the nation will not pardon you. The people will hold you accountable for triggering these crises at a time when the country must return to the democratic path.”

Mentioning that BNP has never supported wrongdoings, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Those of you, who have made sacrifices, wait just a little longer with patience for democracy and ensure that no one engages in any wrongdoing.”

He continued, “BNP has always worked to establish the rule of law — in the past and again in the future.”

The event was organized by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal to commemorate the martyrs of the July-August uprising and the anniversaries of mourning and victory. The party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman joined the program virtually from London.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “With utmost sincerity, we call for a swift change in the state structure and system, and the immediate holding of an election. Because there is no alternative to democracy, and the first step toward democracy is election.”

He added, “These incidents, the deteriorating law and order situation, and the rising number of deaths are happening because there are no elections. Criminals are taking advantage. But if an elected government comes to power, it will undoubtedly be a strong government.”

He continued, “Once again, I want to express hope that together and united, we will be able to establish a democratic state.”

Mirza Fakhrul advised the JCD leaders to compile a book honoring the sacrifices of its martyrs.

He also reiterated BNP’s commitment that, if the party comes to power, the martyrs will be duly honored.

He said, “We once again call upon the interim government to ensure proper compensation and rehabilitation for the martyrs and the injured of July-August mass uprising.”

With JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib in the chair, General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir moderated the event.

Family members of the martyrs, as well as BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Student Affairs Secretary Rokibul Islam Bakul, also addressed.
