JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, July 12, 2025 (BSS) - The Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) today demanded a speedy trial over the recent killing of a businessman in the capital's Mitford area.
Leaders and activists brought out a protest procession around 4pm from the university's transport yard, which concluded near the Central Shaheed Minar through a brief rally.
Speaking at the rally, JU JCD Convener Jahir Uddin Babor said, "Even one year after the 2024 Mass Uprising, the government has failed to restore law and order. Had there been proper justice for the killings and rapes since the beginning of the interim regime, no one would dare to repeat such mob culture."
He added that despite multiple incidents of mob violence across the country, only one incident - in front of Mitford Hospital - is being highlighted to carry out a media trial against BNP and JCD.
"This is a clear attempt to politicize the matter and tarnish our image. No criminal has a political identity. Killers and terrorists are just opportunists," he said, urging the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice regardless of political affiliation.
JCD JU unit Member Secretary Wasim Ahmed Anik alleged that the law and order situation in the country has deteriorated due to the interim government's failure to ensure peace and security.
"I demand justice for all recent killings, including that of the businessman in Mitford and the Jubo Dal leader in Khulna," Anik said.
