12 killed in 10 motorcycle accidents on expressway, highway during 6-month

MUNSHIGANJ, July 12, 2025(BSS)- Twelve people including 11 motorcyclists were killed in 10 road accidents on the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway and Dhaka-Chattogram Highway during the last six months.

Of the deceased, six people were killed on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in six
accidents while six others were killed in four accidents on the Dhaka-
Chattogram Highway, official sources said here today.

According to Hasara Highway Police, one person each was killed in the months
of January, February and April while three people were killed in June on
Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway.

Abdul Kader Jilany, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hasara Highway Thana, told BSS
that excessive speed is the primary cause of the accidents occurring on the
Dhaka-Mawa Expressway.

Usually motorcycle accidents on expressways are often attributed to
overtaking maneuvers and a lack of experience, he said.

"Tough, the Padma Bridge and the expressway have been automated but the
police cannot take measures against the traffic rule violators due to lack of
coordination with the other authorities," the OC said, adding that the
movement of motorcycle on the Padma Bridge should be prohibited from 6pm to
6am.

Meanwhile, the in-charge of Bhaberchar Police Outpost Md Shawkot Hossain told
BSS that most motorcycle accidents occur on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway due to overspeeding and during taking the unsafe U-turns.
