DHAKA, July 1, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) today launched its observance of "July Mass Uprising Month" 2025 with a vibrant rally and tree plantation campaign.

The rally began at 9:00am from B-Block of BMU administrative building, winding its way through campus and concluding on the premises of the Super Specialized Hospital. Faculty members, students, and staff participated in the spirited march, demonstrating their respect and remembrance for the significance of the month.

Following the rally, a tree plantation initiative was carried out to promote environmental awareness. Participants joined in planting saplings. 

A brief rally was held afterward, where speakers highlighted the legacy of the July Mass Uprising and the role of youth in upholding its spirit.

The programmes adopted for July Mass Uprising Month, 2025 include documentary and photo exhibition, blood donation, free screening and blood donor registration, drawing and writing competitions, discussion meetings, free medical services in the outpatient department, serving high-quality food to patients, and various programs as well as Doa Mahfil at the Central Jame Mosque.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event, BMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam mentioned July 2024 as a time marked by uncertainty and insecurity, saying the successful mass uprising led by students and people pulled down the fascist regime and brought a transformation of the long-standing establishment.

The Vice Chancellor also said that the country was going backward at that time, people did not have rights, adding that now is the time to take the country forward. "Our promise to the people is to take Bangladesh forward in the direction of development. BMU must be taken further forward. More skilled specialist doctors must be produced."

BMU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad said the previous Awami League government had also politicized the freedom fighter quota and as a result the real freedom fighters were deprived. People did not have freedom of speech, he added. 

He said that this is the time to pull the country ahead, urging all to remain united Otherwise the fascists will get a chance again.

BMU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader said the students and the public sacrificed their lives standing in front of bullets and as a result, a free Bangladesh has emerged. "We are the beneficiaries of their sacrifice. We pray for the forgiveness and peace of the souls of the July martyrs," he added.

He also stressed the need of ensuring well and developed treatment for the July injured.
 
BMU Treasurer Professor Dr Nahrin Akhtar said that they are holding big positions today because the July Uprising was successful. 

Everyone should pay attention to ensuring that the injured are well-treated, she said, adding "We have to work so that the sacrifice of the martyrs does not go in vain."

Registrar Professor Dr Md Nazrul Islam said that the previous government turned the country into hell and now it is time to establish a democratic government to take Bangladesh forward.

He also said that for the development of Bangladesh and the fulfillment of the hopes of the people, it is necessary to establish a democratic government through national elections. "Everyone must work together to implement that goal," he added.
