BHOLA, June 11, 2025 (BSS) – Fishermen in the coastal districts are set to resume fishing in the Bay of Bengal as the government's 58-day fishing ban will come to an end at midnight tonight.

“The government imposed 58-day fishing ban in the Bay on April 15 aiming at proper breeding, production, preservation and collection of marine fisheries,” Fisheries department officer Biswajit Kumar Dev told BSS here today.

He said a total of 65,000 sea bound fishermen in the district refrained from fishing in the sea following the government’s ban.

However, the government has allocated 78-kg of rice against each fisherman in the district under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme, he said.

Dev said during the fishing restrictions, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Coast Guard and Department of Fisheries conducted joint operations against fishing of all sorts of fishes in the sea.

Visiting at Totatuli area, this correspondent found that fishermen have been taking preparations for going to sea for fishing after the nearly two months long fishing ban.
