CHATTOGRAM, May 31, 2025 (BSS)- Sacrificial animals from across the country have started pouring in the Chattogram cattle markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Authorities have taken tight security by engaging members of the police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Ansars. Plainclothes law enforcement personnel also were deployed in and outside the cattle markets as well as city entry points to ensure safety.
Commissioner of Chattogram Police (CMP) Hashib Aziz said they are monitoring the cattle markets in various ways to ensure safety for the cattle traders and their animals.
The latest addition to this monitoring system is the use of drones. Besides, bank note detection devices are being used to detect fake notes in every cattle market.
Talking to BSS, a number of cattle traders expressed satisfaction over the security measures taken ahead of Eid.
Shamsul Alam, from Banskhali at the city’s Bibirhat Bazar and Nurul Alam Bepary from Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar at Sagarika Bazar here both said that they did not pay any extortion on their way to the market.
During visits to several traditional, makeshift cattle markets and a few mini markets in the port city, it was observed that cattle heads began arriving in good numbers and the selling and buying are gaining momentum gradually.
Traders and market sources observed that prices of sacrificial animals will be slightly higher this year compared to previous years.
Abu Bakar at Bibirhat Bazar who came from Kushtia told BSS that he brought 25 large size cattle to the Chattogram market for sale but did not have to pay any toll.
There are ten cattle markets including eight temporary ones under the supervision of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC).
Selling and buying of sacrificial animals have already gained momentum in the temporary markets from Friday and will continue until midnight of June 6.
Saiful Islam Santo, Superintendent of Chattogram district police said they have taken all necessary security measures to prevent crimes in and around the cattle markets.
RAB source said they have been deployed forces in various cattle markets, strategic points in the city as well as highways for the safety and security of the traders and buyers.
