DHAKA, May 31, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy today said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was a real patriot and symbol of democracy.
“If we understand Zia's ideology, there will have no fear in us," he said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a photography and handcraft exhibition here today.
JASAS, cultural wing of BNP, organized the exhibition marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Copies of Ziaur Rahman's handwritten letters written to heads of states and governments of different countries and paintings on Zia were displayed in the exhibition.
Gayeshwar said Zia was devoted his whole life for the cause of the country’s independence, democracy and sovereignty.
Ziaur Rahman was not campaign-oriented political leader, rather he was an active worker in the fight for freedom and democracy, he said.
Regarding the comments of Chief Adviser Prof Dr. Muhammad Yunus during his recent Japan visit on next election, the BNP leader said, actually, we made a great mistake in recognizing the man.
He said the students-people victory in August was for democracy and fair election. If some people want to enjoy the benefits of that victory, they will be thrown to bin of the history, he observed.
Gayeshwar Roy called upon the JASAS to be more active in promoting the true cultural practices of the country.
BNP Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Ujjal and former JASAS President Rezabuddullah Chowdhury also spoke.
