CHATTOGRAM, May 20, 2025 (BSS) - Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman here today paid rich tribute to the memory of the party's late leader A Z M Obayed Ullah and termed him as a workaholic personality with versatile genius.
Jamaat Chief made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at a discussion meeting and Doa Mahfil on late A Z M Obayed Ullah, the party's city unit Nayeb-e-Ameer. Also a renowned cultural organizer and academics, Obyed Ullah passed away on May 11 last at a city clinic here.
Chattogram Cultural Academy organized the meeting and Doa Mahfil held at local IEB auditorium this afternoon.
Recalling late Obyed's outstanding contributions to the field of literature, culture and education, Jamaat Ameer said, "Our society cannot judge a virtuous person rightly when he is alive but can realized the value of the personality after his demise.
"Late Obayed Ullah was an extra-ordinary talented person who dedicated himself for expansion and establishing the Islamic ideology," Dr. Shafique said, adding, "The void was created following his death cannot be fulfilled."
Chaired by Cultural Academy President Selim Zaman, the function was jointly conducted by poet Chowdhury Golam Mowla and lyrist Golam Mostafa.
Central assistant secretary general Mowlana Mohammad Shah Jahan, city unit Ameer and former lawmaker Shah Jahan Chowdhury, VC of IIUC Dr. Mohammad Ali Azadi, former pro-vc of IIUC Dr. Abu Bakar Rafique Ahmad, city unit secretary Principal Md Nurul Amin and elder son of late Obyed Ullah Omar Musanna, among others, spoke at the function .
Later, Mowlana A B M Siddiqullah conducted Munajat seeking salvation of the departed soul.
Earlier, Jammat Ameer visited Chandgao residence of late leader, talked to the members of bereaved family and conveyed his deep sympathy.
