DHAKA, May 19, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today placed 14 leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League and other associate bodies of Awami League over their sudden processions in the city’s Paltan area on May 18.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Zonaid passed the order as police produced the 14 accused with a plea to place them on a 10-day remand each in the case.

Of the 14, BCL Rangpur city unit general secretary Ripon Babu, Narail district unit president Md Nayeem Bhuiyan, BCL leaders Md Robiul Islam and Dipu Mollah, Jubo League leader Miraj Hossain, Swechchhasebak League leader Nazmul Hasan Sohagh, Cumilla district Shramik League leaders Md Al Amin, Md Abdul Alim, Arif Hossain and Md Rabiul Karim were placed on a three-day remand each.

The court also placed Md Mozammel Hossain Ripon, Zakir Hossain Bepari, Shafikul Islam Shafiq and Mohiuddin on a one-day remand.

According to the case documents, the arrestees, as part of their conspiracy to create an unstable situation in the country, carried out propaganda around the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the afternoon of May 18. Police at the time managed to detain eight from the area with the help of locals. Around 140-150 more managed to flee the scene.

Police later filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act with the Paltan Police Station.
