DHAKA, May 18, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury reiterated his party’s demand for holding the national election by December next.

He said this during a media briefing on contemporary issues at Banani party office here.

Amir Khasru said, BNP does not want politics of vengeance but coexistence and introduction of a different political trend where dissidents will be welcomed.

He said the more the election will be delayed, the more the country will be heading towards instability.

The BNP leader said, the nation is now in a deep state of anxiety. No one knows where the country is going.

“The present government is an interim government, but it is working as like as an elected government,” he said.

He added- the responsibility of the interim government is to arrange a free, fair and participatory election and hand over power to the elected government. Every people at home and abroad is looking forward for a fair election in Bangladesh.

He expressed frustration over the non-implementation of the court order regarding the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation.

"When the court order is not being followed, the question of the rule of law comes up. In whose interest the state institutions are working, that is also a big question now,” he said.
