DHAKA, May 17, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan today said BNP does not want politics of revenge. 

He said this while talking to reporters after placing wreath at the grave of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman in city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area on the occasion of the 18th founding anniversary of the Jatiyatabadi Baul Dal.

Stating that the people are eager to exercise their voting rights, the senior BNP leader said, "The only way to restore democracy is a quick and fair national election. Because, we fought against Pakistan for democracy.

 Therefore, a fair election is needed to bring back democracy in the current context of the country."

BNP believes in democracy to uphold the country's independence, Moyeen Khan said, adding the previous Awami League government destroyed democracy. 

"After achieving independence in 1971, a party destroyed democracy and established a one-party state. They always ignored the opinions of the people. As a result, they fell in the student-public movement in 2024," he said.

About Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, he said Zia did not do politics sitting in Bangabhaban, he used to go to the grassroots and organized the party. 

"He was a unique talent. He patronized art and literature.

 He brought artistes from the villages to utilize rural art, music and talent and took Bauls (mystic singers) with him on foreign tours.

 He cherished the ideals of the village, not the city," said Khan.

"Ziaur Rahman rebelled against the Pakistan Army by declaring independence on March 26 and led without caring for his own life," he said.

Jatiyatabadi Baul Dal leaders Rafiqul Islam Tuhin and Mehedi Hasan Tuhin and the Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal leader Dr. Kazi Monir were present, among others.
