DMP regrets police visit on missing BNP leader's home

DHAKA, May 9, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a statement today expressed regret over police visit to the residence of missing BNP leader Md. Sajedul Islam Sumon at Shahinbagh in Dhaka to execute a pending warrant.

Sub Inspector (SI) Md. Akram Hossain, who visited the residence of the BNP leader, has already been withdrawn from his duty.

According to the DMP statement, all officers involved were recently recruited and were unaware that the residence belonged to Md. Sajedul Islam Sumon, who has been missing for over a decade.

"This unexpected situation occurred due to the team's lack of prior knowledge regarding the missing BNP leader," the DMP explained.

Besides, the DMP conveyed its "sincere regret" over the incident and expressed sympathy to those who have suffered under the fallen fascist government.

"DMP remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens," the statement added,

Earlier, on Thursday, a team from Tejgaon Police Station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, led by Sub-Inspector Md. Akram Hossain, visited the Shahinbagh area under Tejgaon Police Station to execute a pending warrant.

During the operation, they also visited the residence of missing BNP leader Md. Sajedul Islam Sumon in an effort to locate him.
