DHAKA, May 4, 2025 (BSS)-The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today recommended charge sheet against Superintendent Engineer of the Health Engineering Department Anwar Ali and two others for submitting false wealth statement by his wife in a corruption case.
The commission in its meeting made this recommendation against Anwar Ali, his wife Dilruba Ali and brother-in-law Md Mizanur Rahman, ACC Director General Md Akter Hossain disclosed the information to the media in its regular briefing at the commission’s headquarters here.
According to the ACC sources, accused Dilruba Ali in her statement gave information of wealth worth about Taka 3,26,18,858 but the ACC investigators found her wealth worth about Taka 7,27,55,745. She knowingly suppressed her wealth worth about Taka 40,100,000.
The investigators found that her legal wealth is worth about Taka 1,89,49,115 that means her properties worth about Taka 5,72,00000 were beyond her known sources of income.
So the ACC brought charges of money laundering against her as she failed to produce reasonable explanation to the ACC about the genuine source of money of those assets and properties, the sources added.
The ACC accused Anwar Ali of helping his wife in acquiring illegal assets and properties as the Superintendent Engineer of circle-6 of the Health Engineering Directorate.
The commission also found evidences of corruption against Md Mizanur Rahman, a brother-in-law of Dilruba Ali, for acquiring illegal wealth through cheating that is beyond his known source of income.
The commission recommended submitting the charge sheet against the trio under section 27(1), 26(2) of the ACC Act-2004, section 109 of Bangladesh Penal Code, section 5(2) of the Corruption Prevention Act-1947 and sub-sections 2 and 3 under section 4 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act-2012.
The investigation officer will submit the charge sheet against them to the court after ACC’s approval.
