FENI, May 3, 2025 (BSS) - Editor of the Bengali Daily Desh Rupantor and former President of the National Press Club Kamal Uddin Sabuj said here today that the July revolution has created an opportunity to build a New Bangladesh.
“We must use this opportunity in a collective way,” he said while addressing a discussion meeting as the chief guest organized by Feni Reporters’ Unity at its office here marking the World Press Freedom Day.
He said that it’s never right to mix politics with journalism.
“The impartial journalism is hampered if a journalist includes his political ideology or personal interests in his professional life,” he said.
Sabuj opined that the journalists should remain united on their professional integrity going beyond their political thoughts.
“Let that journey start from Feni. If we are not united, we will continue to be persecuted,” he said.
The senior journalist leader said was always beside the oppressed journalists since he started his profession.
Sabuj said a certain situation has been created as all constitutional organizations were politicized prior to the August 5.
He demanded withdrawal of cases filed against the journalists of different opinions and an end to oppression and torture.
Sabuj also said, "We have to work to make the media pro-people. Terming journalism a highly risk job, he said many on-duty journalists died over the years.
He said the media of Bangladesh has progressed over the last eight months. We have to continue our fight to keep the profession free from all influence, he said.
To keep the media free, he said the journalists have to continue the fight, he said.
Feni Reporters’ Unity President and Daily Fenir Somoy Editor Mohammad Shahadat Hossain presided over the meeting, while District Bar Association President Nurul Amin Khan was the special guest.
General Secretary of the Reporters’ Unity Didarul Alam moderated the function which was also addressed by former Feni Press Club President AKM Abdur Rahim and senior journalist Mamunur Rashid.
