DHAKA, May 3, 2025 (BSS) - The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has carried out a special mosquito control and cleanliness drive deploying a team of 500 mosquito control and sanitation workers.
The initiative was conducted today in Khilgaon and North Shahjahanpur under the supervision of DSCC Administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia.
The operation began at 6:00 am and covered North Shahjahanpur, its surrounding wetlands, and adjacent areas. Teams sprayed mosquito repellents and cleared waste to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, particularly dengue-spreading Aedes mosquitoes.
"With the monsoon approaching, we have launched a two-tier campaign against dengue. The first involves our regular mosquito control and sanitation activities, while the second tier includes intensive special drives and public engagement campaigns, including awareness rallies across all 10 DSCC zones,” Shahjahan Mia told journalists.
Similar operations had already been carried out in Jatrabari and Dhanmondi, he said.
Shahjahan Mia urged the city dwellers to remain vigilant and eliminate stagnant water from inside their homes, flower pots, fish tanks, and balconies every three days.
"Combating dengue is a collective effort, requiring joint action from both the city corporation and the residents," he said.
Officials from the Waste Management Division, the Directorate General of Health Services, and the residents actively participated in the drive.
DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Zillur Rahman, Secretary Mohammad Bashirul Haque Bhuiyan, heads of all departments, and local community leaders were also present during the drive.
