RANGPUR, Feb 3, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested 35 leaders and activists of
Awami League (AL) from all eight districts of Rangpur division during the
last 24 hours ending at 6 am on Sunday raising the number of total arrested
people to 1,423 in the last five months.
They were arrested in several cases filed against them for conducting
attacks, murders, attempted murders and sabotage on students and the public
in the anti-discrimination student movement, and planners and financiers of
these crimes.
The crimes and operations division of the Rangpur Range Deputy Inspector
General (DIG)'s Office confirmed the information to local journalists.
According to the information, they were arrested in separate drives under
various upazilas and districts of the division.
The arrested are Gaibandha City Jubo League sports secretary Rakib Mahmud
Apel, Municipal Chhatra League joint organizing secretary Hasan Kazi,
Gobindaganj Municipal Jubo League general secretary Arifur Sarkar, member
Shariful Islam, Mahimaganj union parishad chairman and expelled Union AL
general secretary Anarul Islam.
Ward No 4 AL general secretary Abu Hasan of Bolloverkhas union in Kochakata
Thana of Kurigram, Fulbari upazila AL member Abdul Baki Khandaker and Jubo
League treasurer Joaddar Abdul Khalek, Baravita union Jubo League president

Rangpur Range DIG of Police Aminul Islam told local reporters that 35 people
have been arrested in the last 24 hours ending at 6 am on Sunday from all
eight districts of Rangpur vision under Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police.
So far, a total of 1,423 people from Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra
League, Swechchasebak League, Krishak League, Sramik League and allied
organisations have been arrested in the last five months in the division, he
added.
