14 more die of Covid-19 in Rangpur division


RANGPUR, Aug 4, 2021 (BSS) - Fourteen more patients died of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today raising the total number of casualties to 978 in Rangpur division.
 
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases climbed to 46,486 with 557 fresh cases reported on Tuesday in the division.
 
“The Covid-19 situation continues to show a deteriorating trend almost during the last two months in the division,” Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui said.
 
The 14 new casualties were reported from Rangpur, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts in the division.
 
Among the total 978 fatalities, 216 deaths occurred in Rangpur, 61 in Panchagarh, 71 in Nilphamari, 56 each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram, 189 in Thakurgaon, 279 in Dinajpur and 50 in Gaibandha districts of the division.
   
“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.10 percent in the division,” Dr Siddiqui said.
 
 A total of 557 positive cases were detected after testing 1,737 samples at Rangpur division with a positivity rate of 32.07 percent on Tuesday.
 
Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 28.65 percent on Monday, 29.75 percent on Sunday, 30.31 percent on Saturday, 26.36 percent on Friday and 26.87 percent on Thursday last in the division.
 
“The district-wise break up of total positive cases now stands at 10,371 in Rangpur, 2,925 in Panchagarh, 3,803 in Nilphamari, 2,327 in Lalmonirhat, 3,783 in Kurigram, 6,302 in Thakurgaon, 12,980 in Dinajpur and 3,995 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
 
Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said a total of 2,22,282 samples were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 46,486 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 20.91 percent in the division.
 
Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 35,972 in the division, after 349 more patients were discharged from the hospitals on Tuesday.
 
 The 35,972 recovered patients include 7,002 of Rangpur, 1,886 Panchagarh, 3,105 Nilphamari, 1,904 Lalmonirhat, 2,769 Kurigram, 4,825 Thakurgaon, 11,665 in Dinajpur and 2,816 Gaibandha districts in the division.
 
Among the 46,486 infected patients, 582 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 24 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, while 9,361 patients remain in home isolation.
 
“The number of people who received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine rose to 9,71,332 and of them, 3,95,629 got the second dose of inoculation till Tuesday in the division,” Dr Islam added.
 
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged all to abide by the health directives to contain the outbreak of Covid-19 in the region.
