DHAKA, July 30, 2021 (BSS) – Veteran journalist and former news editor of national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Bazlul Karim was laid to his eternal rest at Mirpur Intellectuals' Graveyard after his overnight death at a private hospital.  He was 81.

  “He breathed his last at the hospital last night following a stroke and was buried at the Mirpur Intellectuals Graveyard this morning after a namaz-e-janaza at Pallabi Rupnagar Residential Area Mosque near his house,” a close relative said.

  Karim, who was being treated at the Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in city's Shyamoli from July 12 due to old age complications, left behind his wife and four daughters.

  Hailed from port city of Chattogram, Karim had his early schooling in Kolkata, and later obtained his graduation from Chattogram Collage.

  Karim was a left-leaning political activist in his early life and made his debut as a journalist joining the then irregularly published “Haq Katha” of veteran politician Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani and, for a brief period, also served as his private sectary in the pre-independence period.

  Ahead of the 1971 independence, he joined the now defunct Peoples View newspaper in Chattogram, and later in the then Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), which emerged as BSS after the independence.

  Karim earned the repute of being an experienced editor in English journalism while retired from the state-owned BSS in 2001.
