Int'l Public Service Day tomorrow

DHAKA, June 23, 2020 (BSS) - The International Public Service Day will be observed in the country as elsewhere across the world tomorrow.
 
The government has chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the International Public Service Day in a befitting manner.
 
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages conveying greetings to the officials and employees of the republic on the occasion of the day.
 
In his message, President Abdul Hamid asked the officials-employees of the republic to ensure hassle-free services in the quickest possible time for the people.
 
Describing skilled civil service as the base of public administration, the President underlined the need for a skilled, dynamic and accountable public administration for smooth implementation of different people-oriented programmes of the government.
 
The government has been working relentlessly to turn Bangladesh into a developed one by 2041 and achieve the SDGs, he said.
 
The Prime Minister in her message congratulated the Public Administration Ministry for taking a different initiatives to observe the day.
 
“The world has been facing oddities because of pandemic Covid-19 and our country is no exception. We are now able to run various important activities through a digital system, which has been developed since 2009,” she said.
 
“Using the online platform, through tele-conferrence, I also exchange my views and provide important directions to different government and non-government officials,” she added.
 
“Doctors can give suggestions to their patients and people can pay their utility bills, make transactions with banks, and buy goods through online,” she further said.
 
The PM said Bangabandhu dreamt of a people-friendly and service-oriented public administration through ensuring transparency and accountability at all levels and the government has been working on it.
 
This year his (Bangabandhu’s) birth centenary is being celebrated, we hope, members of the civil service will play an important role in turning Bangladesh into a developed and progressed nation and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), she said.
 
They wished all the success of the day.
 
The UN General Assembly, in its resolution 57/277 on December 20 in 2002, designated June 23 as Public Service Day to celebrate the value and virtue of public service, highlight contribution of public service in the development process, recognize work of public servants and encourage young people to pursue careers in the public sector.
