DHAKA, July 23, 2021 (BSS) - A court here today sent five persons to jail over the snatching of a mobile phone of Planning Minister MA Mannan.

The accused are Md Sagir, Md Sumon, Md Jakir, Md Hamid Ahmed, and Sohel alias Arif.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder passed the order as police produced the accused before the court after the end of their remand.

Defence counsels, however, argued for their bail, which was vehemently opposed by the prosecution. After hearing both sides, the court sent the five to jail.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam on July 19 had placed the accused on three-day remand each in the case.

Police while probing another case of mobile phone snatching in the capital, recovered the phone of the minister and arrested the five from different parts of the capital.

Police also recovered a motorcycle, 12 mobile phones, a laptop, and different parts of mobile phones from their possessions.

The mobile phone was snatched from the hand of the minister as he was talking, sitting in his SUV in Bijoy Swarani traffic signal, on his way to his Bailey Road home on the evening of May 21.
