RAJSHAHI, July 23, 2021 (BSS) - A total of 217 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in six districts in the division on Thursday, taking the caseload to 76,882 since the pandemic began.

With five more fatalities from the disease reported on the same day, the death toll reached 1,202, including 515 in Bogura, 217 in Rajshahi with 122 in its city and 131 in Chapainawabganj, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

The new daily infection figure shows a slightly declining trend compared to the previous day's figure of 242, the health department sources said.

Among the infected people, 53,238 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 442 new recoveries found on the day.

A total of 10,579 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 17,756 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 12,091 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 109 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 381 others were released from isolation during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Of the total positive cases, the highest 84 were detected in Bogura, followed by 76 in Sirajganj, 22 in Rajshahi, including 21 in its city, 20 in Naogaon, 14 in Chapainawabganj and one in Joypurhat districts.

With the newly detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 22,704 in Rajshahi, including 18,015 in its city, 4,792 in Chapainawabganj, 5,680 in Naogaon, 6,023 in Natore, 4,039 in Joypurhat, 17,708 in Bogura, 7,273 in Sirajganj and 8,960 in Pabna.

A total of 96,802 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 86,600 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their 14-day quarantine.

Meanwhile, the surge of Covid-19 cases has been continuing in all eight districts of the division since the beginning of the second wave making the division a hotspot of the deadly virus.
