Rangpur records 38.40pc Covid-19 positivity rate Thursday

  RANGPUR, July 23, 2021 (BSS) - The Covid-19 situation deteriorated again in Rangpur division where 38.40 percent positivity rate was recorded on Thursday as the same rate remained mostly between 25 percent and 30 percent in recent days.
 
  Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases rose to 38,820 as 202 new patients were reported after testing 526 collected samples of Rangpur division at the positivity rate of 38.40 percent on Thursday.
 
  Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 23.27 percent on Wednesday, 24.74 percent on Tuesday, 24.17 percent on Monday, 26.75 percent on Sunday, 29.51 percent on Saturday and 28.11 percent on Friday last in the division.
 
  The district-wise break up of 38,820 infected patients stands at 8,540 in Rangpur, 2,139 in Panchagarh, 2,979 in Nilphamari, 2,039 in Lalmonirhat, 2,848 in Kurigram, 5,335 in Thakurgaon, 11,659 in Dinajpur and 3,281 in Gaibandha of the division.
 
  Meanwhile, 10 patients died of Covid-19 in Rangpur, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts of the division during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today.
 
  "With this, the total number of casualties rose to 807 in all eight districts of Rangpur division," said Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.
 
  The district-wise break up of the 807 fatalities stands at 168 in Rangpur, 252 in Dinajpur, 154 in Thakurgaon, 59 in Nilphamari, 42 in Kurigram, 47 in Panchagarh, 38 in Gaibandha and 47 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.
 
  The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.08 percent, the highest ever casualty rate since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the division.
 
  Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said a total of 1,97,826 collected samples were tested till Thursday, and of them, 38,820 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.62 percent in the division.
 
   
 
  Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 28,889 with recovery of 218 more infected patients on Thursday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 74.42 percent.
 
  The 28,889 recovered patients include 6,054 of Rangpur, 1,187 of Panchagarh, 2,374 of Nilphamari, 1,492 of Lalmonirhat, 1,920 of Kurigram, 3,775 of Thakurgaon, 10,054 of Dinajpur and 2,033 of Gaibandha districts in the division.
 
  Among the 38,820 infected patients, 544 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 25 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 28,889 patients and 807 deaths while 8,969 are remaining in home isolation.
 
  "Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine rose to 7,34,419, and among them, 3,89,508 got the second dose of the jab till Thursday in the division," Dr Islam added.
 
  Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to abide by the health directives and remain at home to contain further spread of the Covid-19 virus.
