DHAKA, July 15, 2021 (BSS) - State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said remarkable achievements in waterways had come in the last 12 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He said this in a programme while inaugurating two new ferries at Shimulia ghat in Munshiganj.

"Everyone is united under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina , the worthy daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman , to build 'Sonar Bangla' as dreamt by Bangabandhu," he said.

Praising the premier, he also said that she is showing the right path for the country by taking many pragmatic development activities.

"The Prime Minister is a dreamer of the Padma Bridge," he added.

Shipping secretary Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Chairman Syed Mohammad Tajul Islam, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq, Deputy Commissioner Nahid Rasul and Additional Superintendent of Police Sumon Dev Barman were present, among others, on the occasion.

With the inauguration of two newly constructed medium ferries 'Kunjalata' and 'Kadam', the number of ferries on the route Shimulia in Munshiganj and Banglabazar in Madaripur has stood at 17, a press release said here today.

Of these, four are Ro-Ro, six are dumb, six are medium and one is a small ferry, it added.

Earlier, 15 ferries used to ply on the Shimulia-Banglabazar-Shimulia route and inclusion if these two new ferries will make it easier for vehicles and passengers to cross the route.
