RANGPUR, July 13, 2021 (BSS) – Former General Secretary (GS) of Rangpur Press Club freedom fighter Ali Ashraf died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH) on Monday night.
He was 65.
He is survived by wife, two daughters, relatives, admirers and fellow journalists.
Earlier, he suffered a severe brain hemorrhage on June 8, 2017.
He had been suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes and other old-age ailments for a long time at his Kamal Kachhna residence in the city.
Despite a long battle with illness, Ali Ashraf could not return to normal life.
As his conditions deteriorated, he was admitted to RpMCH on Sunday night. He breathed his last there around 8 pm on Monday night.
He was former Rangpur District Correspondent of Bangladesh television (BTV) and Dainik Amader Samoy.
He conducted his responsibility as Rangpur City Correspondent of Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar and Executive Editor of three local dailies including Dainik Bayannor Alo, Dainik Juger Alo and Dainik Dabanol.
Talking to BSS, General Secretary of Rangpur Press Club Rafikul Islam Sarker said the Namaz-e-Janaza of Ali Ashraf will be held at Kamal Kachhna Jam-e-Mosque premises adjacent to Chirar Mill in the city after the Zuhr prayers today.
The district administration and a smart contingent of Rangpur Metropolitan Police will give a guard of honour and bugle play the last post before his Namaz-E-Janaza there.
The body of late Ali Ashraf will be kept on Rangpur Press Club premises at 2 pm for paying last homage to him by the people from all walks of life.
Later, his body will be buried at Nurpur Graveyard in the city with full state honour this afternoon.
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, local leaders of different political parties, trade bodies, professional and socio-cultural organisations and local journalists expressed their profound shock at the death of Ali Ashraf.
They also conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
