CHATTOGRAM, Sept 12, 2026 (BSS)- Chattogram district administration has initiated a comprehensive cleanliness campaign across nearly 2,000 mosques and their surrounding areas in  Chattogram district today  to combat dengue. 

This initiative has begun at 9:30 AM on Saturday (September 12) , as part of a nationwide dengue prevention program for three months. 
 
 Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jahidul Islam Miah highlighted the importance of eliminating Aedes mosquito breeding sites and maintaining cleanliness in homes, workplaces, and nearby areas.

“Encouraging citizens for cleanliness as a civic obligation, the Deputy Commissioner stated, "Maintaining a clean environment is not the exclusive duty of any one individual, institution, or organization; it is a collective responsibility. Cleanliness should become a habitual practice." 
The program was attended by Member of Parliament Abu Sufian, senior administrative and police officials, representatives from the Islamic Foundation, religious scholars, Scouts, Girl Guides, members of various environmental awareness organizations, and youth volunteers. 

The district administration noted that cleanliness drives have been regularly conducted in different areas of Chattogram every Saturday since July 25. Approximately 6,200 officials and employees took part in the inaugural drive, in which around 135 metric tons of wastes were collected from various government offices and establishments. 

Besides, nearly 1,200 educational institutions in the district have already been included in this initiative.
