DHAKA, Sept 12, 2026 (BSS) – The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has asked the concerned regional and district officials to organise sports, co-curricular and cultural programmes along with the education in an effort to develop overall skills as well as physical and mental health of the students.

The instructions came through an official order issued and signed by DSHE’s deputy director Professor M Shahidul Islam on Thursday (Sept 10).

The order has been sent to all the regional directors, deputy directors (secondary) and district education officials.

In the DSHE order emphasized sports, co-curricular and cultural activities and asked to operate it round the year along with coordinated academic programme.

The DSHE instructions enrolled a total of 35 programmes—of these 15 are sports which include Football, Volleyball, Chess, Cricket, Table Tennis, Kabaddi, Badminton, Handball, Basketball, Hockey, traditional rural game, swimming, athletics, Taekwondo and martial art.   

The order also includes 13 co-curricular activities like Hamd and Naat, Bangla and English speeches and debates, extempore speech, wall magazine preparation, reading books, daily newspaper reading, creative writing, environmental protection, digital content creation, mental health awareness, mathematics olympiad, and one child one tree.

In addition to this, Music, recitation, solo acting, quizzes, dance, graffiti drawing, festivals and cultural heritage events, and drawing included under the cultural programme.

“These programmes will be organised in convenient time round the year coordinated with the academic education programme of the institute. The students must participate regularly in the programme”, said the DSHE order.

Moreover, the DSHE also stressed operating different organization and clubs including boy scouts, rover scouts, girl guides, science club, debate club, health and physical education club.

At the same time, these extracurricular activities will also play a vital role in promoting creativity, leadership quality, socio-cultural efficiency and confidence among the students, it said.
