CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) - Chittagong University (CU) will organize a 'Nazrul Seminar' on Thursday (September 10) to mark the 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and the centenary of the poet's historic visit to Chattogram.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farid Uddin, Director of the CU Nazrul Research Centre, announced this during a press briefing held at the centre this afternoon.
He informed that the seminar will take place at 10:00 AM on Thursday at the Social Science Faculty auditorium, organized under the initiative of the CU Nazrul Research Centre.
CU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan will grace the event as the chief guest, while Pro-VC (Academic) Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Amin and Pro-VC (Admin) Prof. Dr. Md. Safiqul Islam will attend as special guests.
Eminent Nazrul researcher Prof. Irshad Ahmed Shahin will present the keynote paper at the seminar. Prominent Nazrul researcher Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nurul Amin, CU Bangla Department Chairman Prof. Dr. Mohammod Anwar Sayed and Dr. Taslima Begum will participate in the discussion.
After the seminar, prizes will be distributed among winners of poetry recitation, quiz and music competitions organized as part of the Nazrul Week celebrations.
Tanushree Das, an artist from Bangladesh Television and Betar, will perform Nazrul songs at the event.
National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was born on May 24, 1899 (11th Jaistha, 1306 BS) in Churulia village under the Asansol subdivision of Paschim Bardhaman district in West Bengal.
Nazrul first visited Chattogram in 1926. His stay in Chattogram and his interactions with people from various walks of life during that time add a significant chapter to his literary and personal life.
