PANCHAGARH, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS)- Dense fog blanketed roads and pathways across Panchagarh this morning at the onset of autumn, reducing visibility and forcing drivers to switch on headlights and move cautiously.

The fog began covering the district from dawn and persisted until around 6:30 am, with village roads, highways and town streets shrouded in thick mist, creating a winter-like atmosphere.

Local residents said visibility was reduced to only a few feet in some areas. As sunlight appeared later in the morning, the fog gradually lifted and normal visibility returned.

Aibul Islam, a resident of Galeha Kantamoni area under Kamat Kajaldighi Union of Sadar upazila, told BSS that his house was completely enveloped in fog when he woke up in the morning.

"Nothing could be seen even a few feet away. I have never seen such dense fog in September before," he said.

Azizul Islam, an easy-bike driver in the district town, said he had to drive slowly as visibility remained very poor even with his vehicle's headlights switched on.

Jitendranath Roy, officer-in-charge of the Tetulia Weather Observation Centre, told BSS that the minimum temperature in Tetulia had remained between 25 and 26 degrees Celsius over the past week.

The temperature was recorded at 25.6 degrees Celsius at 6 am today, while the previous day's maximum temperature was 32.5 degrees Celsius, he said.

He said such weather conditions during the transition into autumn can occur due to changes in monsoon activity and prolonged cloud cover followed by sudden clearing of the sky, which can contribute to fog formation.
