RANGPUR, Sept 5, 2026 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu MP today said that urgent steps will be taken to solve the existing problems of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH) and expand the scope of services. 
 
"The anesthesia crisis is resolved at the RpMCH. It will be possible to start new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds at the hospital within the next month," he said. 
 
The minister said this while briefing reporters after laying the foundation stone of the service building of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Rangpur Medical College and Hospital on Saturday morning. 
 
Regarding the start of ICU beds, he said, "There is a shortage of ICU beds at the RpMCH. Due to the anesthesia crisis, we could not start providing services there. In the meantime, anesthesia arrangements have been made to start new ICU beds within the next month." 
 
The minister said that the manpower crisis in the health sector is a major problem in this country. 
 
"We are now in the recruitment process. If the recruitment process is completed in a short time, we will be able to work to meet the manpower and service needs of this hospital," he said.
 
Seeking cooperation in improving the quality of services at the RpMCH, he said, "Please cooperate with everyone so that we can develop this hospital into an institution providing quality healthcare for the people. I am sincere in this regard."
 
He said, "If everyone cooperates, we will be able to launch some more new services and develop the hospital within a shorter period." 
 
Earlier, the Disaster Management and Relief Minister inaugurated the regional office of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission Secretariat in the city.
 
Rangpur Development Authority Chairman Md Samsuzzaman Samu, Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner Ishrat Jahan, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Mahbubur Rashid, RpMCH Director Brigadier General Md Ashiqur Rahman, Rangpur Medical College Principal Professor Dr Md Anwar Hossain, and other officials were present at these events.
