DINAJPUR, Sept 4, 2026 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Prof Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today urged drivers, vehicle owners and passengers to remain aware and follow traffic rules to bring road accidents down to zero.

“Everyone has to be cautious from their respective positions and ensure safe movement on roads to protect themselves from the devastating consequences of road accidents,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a cheque distribution ceremony organized by the Dinajpur District BRTA at Kanchan Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here this afternoon.

Zahid said a road accident resulting in the death, serious injury or permanent disability of a family member creates a huge burden for the affected family.

“So, all of us who use roads must take necessary precautions. Only then can we significantly reduce the number of road accidents,” he said.

At the end of the discussion, the BRTA distributed government financial assistance worth Taka 3.39 crore among 73 people killed or injured in road accidents.
Of them, the families of 65 deceased received Taka 5 lakh each, totaling Taka 3.25 crore. Eight injured victims received cheques amounting to Taka 14 lakh in total.

Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Md Rafiqul Islam presided over the programme.

Jatiya Sangsad Whip Md Akhtaruzzaman Mia MP, Md Monzurul Islam MP, AZM Rezwanul Haque MP, District Council Administrator and District BNP President Advocate Md Mofazzal Hossain Dulal and District BNP General Secretary Bakhtiar Ahmed Kochi, among others, addressed the event as special guests.
