NETROKONA, Aug 28, 2026 (BSS)- Lawmaker of Netrokona-1 constituency Barrister Kayser Kamal today issued a stern directive to identify and arrest those responsible for uprooting saplings planted along a road in Kalmakanda within 48 hours.
“Trees are not just trees; they have life. I would say these trees have been killed. I am directing that the tree killers must be identified within the next 48 hours and brought under the law,” he said.
He made the remark after inspecting the damaged saplings in the Babni area of Kalmakanda upazila following Jum’a prayers today.
At the time, he announced the planting of another 1,200 fruit-bearing, forest and medicinal saplings at the same location and inaugurated the programme.
He also assured that effective measures would be taken to protect and properly care for each sapling.
Expressing extreme dissatisfaction with the administration, the Deputy Speaker directly instructed, “It was the administration’s responsibility to quickly find out who destroyed or uprooted these trees. But two days have passed by and they have not been able to do anything.”
Urging all to protect the trees and nature, he said, “These trees are not just government property; they are the property of all of us. Protecting a tree means protecting a life.”
Officials from local administration and local BNP leaders were present at the time.
It is to be mentioned that with the guidance of Kayser Kamal, more than 500 saplings were planted along the roadside in the Babni area on August 5 under the supervision of the local Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal. Of these, miscreants uprooted 35 saplings and their protective fencing on the night of August 25.
